Super Bowl Recap

That is a wrap folks, the season has officially come to an end. Your Seattle Seahawks are your NFL Champions. They put belt to ass on the New England Patriots defeating them 29-13. I was expecting a comfortable win for the Seahawks, but this was just straight up an ass whooping.

There wasn’t much scoring outside of Seattle kicker Jason Myers nailing 4 field goals in a row, giving the Seathawks a 12-0 lead on the Pats going into the 4th quarter. We then got our first TD of the game courtesy of a Sam Darnold touchdown throw to AJ Barner to really put this game out of reach, with Seattle leading 19-0. Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III was awarded MVP honors, after posting a stat line of 27 carries for 135 yards, and 2 receptions for 26 yards, but 0 all purpose touchdowns. I disagree with giving Walker III the MVP award here as he didn’t account for any points even if he had a great stat line otherwise. I probably would’ve given it to Myers for nailing 5 field goals. He went a perfect 5/5 from the field and 2/2 for extra points. MVP is usually given to QBs, but Darnold’s stat line didn’t really warrant it (19/38 for 202 yards and 1 touchown). He also rushed for 5 yards on 2 carries. Nevertheless, I guess it was a cool storyline to give it to a Walker III as he was the first RB to win MVP of the Super Bowl in 28 years when Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos won it. In addition, he also accounted for alot of yardage (almost half of Seattle’s yardage) and got the offense in position to score on numerous drives, so it wasn’t all for nothing giving him the prestigious award.

Seattle HC Mike Macdonald and Seattle DC Aden Durde (a British national) had the defense buzzing. They held a potent New England offense to only 13 points (0 going into the 4th quarter), which was all scored in garbage time (when the game was already out of hand and the defense was able to relax). They also sacked QB Drake Maye 6 times and picked him off twice.

To conclude, Seattle deserved to win the Super Bowl, as they had showed all season to be one of if not the most consistent teams across the board. They displayed an effective and multi-dimensional offense, an aggressive and opportunistic defense, and a strong special teams unit. This was their second Super Bowl in franchise history. Sam Darnold had quite the career turnaround, getting drafted 3rd overall in 2018 by the Jets to getting traded 3 years later to the Panthers and being the backup QB to now Super Bowl champion QB for the Seahawks, earning his first Lombardi trophy. Mike Macdonald became the 3rd youngest coach to win the Super Bowl at 38 years old. I wouldn’t be surprised if he added atleast 1 more. As for the Pats, I think they overachieved this year by a far margin, helped by their easy schedule and some injury luck on other teams (see the playoff game against the Broncos). They are however one of the stronger teams in the league and will only get better. They have a franchise QB in place and a great HC. They will likely make another appearance or 2 in the big game in the current structure of the team at QB and HC.

Now we turn our attention to the upcoming free agency period and then the NFL draft. The new league year unofficialy starts now!
