It is finally here. The week of the Super Bowl has arrived. The match will be played on Sunday, February 8th in Santa Clara, California at Levi’s Stadium (home of the San Francisco 49ers). The 1-seed NFC Champs Seattle Seahawks will take on the 2-seed AFC Champs New England Patriots in a re-match of 2015. Except, this time around the teams look totally different. Back then Russell Wilson was the QB for Seattle and Tom Brady was the QB for New England. Pete Carroll coached the Seahawks and Bill Belichick coached the Pats. Here are some storylines for this year’s Super Bowl game:
- One QB will win his first Lombardi after Sunday’s game. Will it be the re-surgent Sam Darnold or the sophmore phenom Drake Maye?
- There will be a first time HC Super Bowl winner. New England coach Mike Vrabel won it as a player, but not as a coach. Will it be him or Seattle HC Mike MacDonald?
- Can the Patriots set a record for most Super Bowl Wins as a franchise? New England has already won 6 Super Bowl titles. Seattle only has won 1. The Patriots are currently tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for most titles with 6. A win on Sunday and they will be in sole position as the most decorated franchise in the NFL with 7 titles. Will history be made?
- Can another record be achieved? If the Pats win on Sunday, then QB Drake Maye will be the youngest QB to win in the Super Bowl at 23 years and 162 days old, edging legendary QB Ben Roethlisberger’s record of 23 years and 340 days old. Drake Maye is already the second youngest QB to start in the big game.
- QB Sam Darnold has given teams a template. Don’t give up on your young and talented QB too early. Also, put him in the best possible situation to succeed. For other franchises, give these types of QBs another chance and see if you could tap the potential out of him. A strong performance on Sunday and Darnold will just strengthen his case that he and other QBs just like him could bring success to another franchise.
