- Firing Sean McDermott will prove to be a mistake for the Buffalo Bills. There is no one available that poses as an upgrade and McDermott has a 98-50 regular season coaching record, albeit 8-8 in the postseason. He constantly coached his team to the playoffs and most of those years included division titles, a feat that is hard to achieve in the league.
- The Raiders have a chance to really turn around their franchise with the right coaching hire and the presumable selection of Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza with the #1 pick. I will probably be doing a more detailed off-season write-up of the Raiders later, but initial thought is if they for example hire a strong offensive coach, for example Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak and pair him with Fernando Mendoza to go along with the weapons they already have like TE Brock Bowers, RB Asthon Jeanty, and WR Jack Bech, they could see a quick turnaround in their success, with a postseason berth within a couple of years achievable.
- Where do the Jets go from here? They decided to stick with Aaron Glenn as HC, which doesn’t inspire much hope, and they really lack a plan at QB. Their QB1 Justin Fields had a sub-par season and it is presumed that they will move on from him. The NFL draft lacks any legit QB options outside of Fernando Mendoza and he is going 1st overall with the Raiders pick. The QB free agent pool is just as bad with Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco as probably the top options (Daniel Jones will go back to Indy). It seems that their best bet is to have Glenn coach as a lame duck for this up-coming season and then have tank commander QB Brady Cook behind the o-line, and then clean house in 2027 when the QB draft class should be much stronger.
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba has developed into a top-3 WR in just his third year in the league after being the 20th overall pick in 2023. he definitely out-produced his draft slot. This past regular season he posted 119 receptions for 1793 yards and 10 touchdowns for a really impressive 15.1 yards per reception average. To average that many yards per reception on those many receptions and for not being known as a deep threat is just flat out incredible. In addition, he had a stat line of 10/153/1 in the NFC Championship game. He balls out in big moments too it seems. He also seems to have a good head on his shoulders and doesn’t display any diva traits like many alpha WR1s do. Seattle got a really good one.
- New England is either really well run or just flat-out lucky. After getting Tom Brady, arguably the greatest player of all time, in the 6th round of the NFL draft, and him leading the Pats to 6 Super Bowl championships, they have a couple of down seasons and are now again in the Super Bowl after grabbing young QB phenom Drake Maye in 2024. In just his second year, Maye is already playing in the big game. Looks like we may have another Pats dynasty on our hands although it is too early to tell.
